Closing the Bones Ceremony

Yiyąą

In the N’de language “Yiyąą” means “to sit”. It is important in the indigenous community to take time to sit and heal after life changing events.

The Practice

The Bone closing Ceremony has been used all over the world to aid in the new parents’ healing process. During pregnancy, the birthing person’s hips become wider and the joints more hyper mobile. After the birth it is important to help close back these bones to help stabilize the pelvis and place organs back in their original spot; otherwise parents would suffer from pelvic instability. Each ceremony invites release, alignment, and restoration with hands on care and intentional wrapping.

This ceremony is not exclusive for birthing mothers, parents, or women. The Bone closing ceremony is for anyone who is going thru or went thru a traumatic or life changing experience such as marriage, divorce, separation, loss of job, moving homes, going into menopause, etc.

The physical benefits are met with spiritual healing. Along with the ceremony, space is held for the person so they can find healing in their body, birth experience, and to connect to their new body.

During this session the recipient will be wrapped in rebozos as their bones become gently aligned with pulling techniques from the blankets. The recipient is then cocooned as the ceremony finishes with sound therapy.

What to Expect

Closing the Bones is an intimate practice and is offered  in the comfort of your own home or in our office if needed. This ceremony may also be celebrated with a close circle of friends and family. Together we will flow through a series of hands on techniques while you are clothed and lying on the floor. You will be supported with a floor mat, blankets, and neck support. If others are present, they will be invited to assist with wrapping your body and creating your cocoon.

The format and price is slightly different depending on how you choose to receive a Closing the Bones ceremony.

1 on 1 ceremony - 2.5 hours

$250 in-home

We begin the ceremony with conversation surrounding your pregnancy, birth experience and journey into parenthood. Then, you will transition to the floor, and the hands on bodywork begins. We’ll integrate stretching, rocking, back lymphatic massage, Yoni steam with an herbal tea, herbal steam bath, and finish with a face up lymphatic massage on the chest and abdominal area and the bone closing.

Circle of Support (2 -8 people) - 3-4 hours

$350.00-450.00- In home

In addition to the details listed for a 1 on 1 ceremony, your friends and family are invited to share their love and support for you, as well as honor your journey and transition. We will begin with a story circle to share everyone's blessings, then transition into hands on care. Your support circle will help with securing each wrap on your body. Then we will meditate together and can incorporate singing while all hands are holding you. To finish, your support circle will assist with unwrapping and offer additional words of love and support. After group sessions, it is not uncommon to share a meal together via potluck. Each person participating in the ceremony should be contacted before hand so they are aware of the guidelines.
